viewshed is an area that is visible from a specific location. 
Archaeologist have a scientific term for it "Viewshed"
The viewshed indicates the land areas visible from a specific point at different levels from not visible to visible, based on the number of times the area could be seen.
This concept can be applied to Aviation Archaeology.
In Aviation Archaeology terms it is comparing old wreck photos with the present day to determine if a crash site is viewable from a search location and if the photos can be matched up. Many of us have been doing this for years and Craig and Rasa Fuller are the Masters.
So next time you are out looking for a crash site check the Viewshed
