I purchased this aircraft data plate at an antique store
US ARMY AIR FORCES R-6A-NK 43-45782 W535-AC40217 No date accepted My question is the R-6A serial numbers were between 43-45342- 43-45534. My serial number is too high? The Baugher website says they canceled the order for more. The data plate looks legitimate. So what is it from? Could it be from the factory where they were made, but not built? Or a trainer model? Any ideas?
The R-6A helicopter was the first helicopter used in combat. All R-6As were produced in 1944 and 1945 by Nash-Kelvinator under license to Sikorsky.

Yeah, that's super strange. I can't find anything other than the cancelled numbers as well. I could see some data plates being hammered out before the contract was cancelled, but 200 over seems like a lot. Still, I would think the most likely scenario is that it came from the factory and was never on an airframe....looking at the plate it doesn't look it ever had screws in it. No washer marks or anything.

That's funny, they got ahead of themselves.
Per Andrade book it was to be the R-6B. Actually with a lower horsepower Lycoming O-435 (225 hp). The production A had a 240 hp Franklin O-405. Everyone got a dataplate with their pink slip...
