Name the plane wreck, what type of plane is it?
VINTAGE 1956 35MM SLIDE FROM THE KANEOHE BAY HAWAII MARINE CORPS BASE FEATURING "WRECKAGE OF A FIGHTER JET PLANE".
looks like Marine Corps jet VMF maybe A-4, F-4 Phantom or FJ or Crusader? what do you think? looks like more than 1 wreck?
But then, which VMF from 1956? Any info on jet accidents MCAS Kaneohe 1956?

Dave,

Looks like an A-4 on top (check speedbrakes) and a subsonic something to the right with the rounded leading edges

No Its not a A-4 Skyhawk, the white colored tail parts do not match, and the angle of the tail is wrong.
next guess?

My WAG is going to be the FJ fury.  The horizontal looks like a match and that looks like the forward fuselage section to the right which has an F-86 type look to it.

Pete, I believe that WAG is a winner! Do you think the aircraft on the left could be an AD-5 "Skyraider"?

I think we have a winner! A later model FJ-4B Fury looks correct. You can tell by the white on the tail. The early models had a different tail which got me confused.
The time frame is also about right.
Now I got to figure out which FJ- Fury crashed MCAS Kaneohe around that time frame

Maybe this one?
FJ-4B 143632
*1959: VMA-214 as "WE-13".
*6/4/1959: Crashed in Hawaii after a collision with FJ-4B 143573.

I'll have to agree on the FJ-4 not the earlier FJ-1.  As to the wreck on the left I'am not sure I want to try that one.

A bit more info about the FJ-4 Fury midair 4th June 1959. USMC North American FJ-4B Fury 143573 VMA-214 Midair collision in Hawaii with USN Fury 143632. Landed and burned at Honolulu Airport. So the wreck could have been recovered and moved to Kaneohe.
Also the date of 1959 is close to 1956. I assume that all the photos in the collection are different dates starting in 1956 and continuing.
Interesting that it appears the Marine jet collided with the Navy jet. This could be an interesting story.
I'm seeking more info on this incident. I'm looking for accident reports, Newspaper stories etc...

Might not even be a wreck at all.  That appears to be the tail cone section that is removed for servicing or changing the engine ( I downloaded a pic, but it went to computer neverland).  Perhaps it was removed after a ground collision and replaced from another  aircraft?  More curious about the one under it or what is partly visible behind it.  Wish there were more pictures.  Dennis
