Saw these on the B-17 forum.  Says it's 2 miles SSE from Hendricks, but some there disagree.  42-37895 s-l1600 B-17 SSE Hendricks.jpg  s-l1600 B-17 SSE Hendricks.jpg

I can verify the photos were taken at both Hendricks and Immokalee Army Airfields- I owned that album for years and sold it not too long ago.

Are we looking at a lift fan failure of the B-17's "hover mode" feature... kind of accident?

Does anybody know how this B-17 ended up where it is without, apparently, disturbing the vegetation around it?

Trey, were there any more B-17 trainers in that album?

First: Chris I believe I mentioned Trey when I posted the two pics of the other Hendricks wrecks on the forum.  Wish I could see all the pics in that album.
Next Xhunter - maybe it was the top secret VTOL B-17G [smile]
For your viewing pleasure, I copied the OTHER 2 pictures of it.
When I saw the first pic and all the Spanish Moss hanging off it, I knew right away it was a Florida wreck.  Of interesting note (noted by the OP on the other site) It is a G, but lacks cheek guns.  It also has the early tail position (Steeplechase?).

Chris-
Yes, there were over 90 photos, 8" x 10" in size covering 8-9 or so major crashes. This album must have belonged to the base crash investigator or maintenance officer as it was bound by an official USAAF cover.
