I wonder if the wreck of a Liberator (not sure whether it was the Army or Navy version) which crashed about 10PM between Henderson and Oxford NC has ever been investigated.  I think this was probably 1945 or 1946.  It would have been reported by the Henderson Daily Dispatch.  This appeared to be a regular route for this airplane as I had observed it prior to the crash night identifying it by the sound of its motors.  That night it sounded different and as I listened to it I could tell it was really winding up and coming down.  It crashed several miles from where I was and exploded when it hit the ground.  From the light of the explosion it appeared to have been on fire and smoking before it hit.  Newspaper accounts said that everyone got out before the crash.  That's all I remember about it.
