Found at an abandoned civilian airfield. (circa 1950s-1980s)

Same size as a data plate.  But the square-matrix pattern is throwing me off. 

Nothing readable on it.   Ever seen this???

Did it have a foil sticker on it or something?

Crashes on this airfield were Pipers, Cessnas, something called a Starduster II, etc.

I say it is just trash, no data plate has the square-matrix pattern 
and the side indent is also wrong.
