I picked this up from the WIX forum " I wonder if someone could help with the USAAF serial number of the BT-13A that crashed on the 20th January 1942 at Riddle Field Clewiston, Florida It was assigned to No.5 British Flying Training School and the pilot LAC R B Crosskey RAFVR was killed on the solo flight when he flew into the ground on his second approach in fog after overshooting. He is buried in Arcadia (Oak Ridge) Cemeteryhttp://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casua ... %20BENSLEY The aircraft is not identified in the surviving RAF records on LAC Crosskey." I could not find this crash on the AAIR, Aviation Archaeological Investigation & Research Database either Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, I've had the opportunity as well to research a mishap involving a cadet from a BFTS. My best luck was to contact the RAF Air Historical Branch at "Air Historical Branch (RAF)" <ahb.raf@btconnect.com>. The people I dealt with were friendly and helpful.

Jeff Thanks fro your suggestions. I beleive all UK avenues have been explored over the serial (in fact a crash report is online about this incident) but the only outstanding mystery is the serial number of the BT-13A (it is missing from report as well see link below Someone has looked in the USAAF records for the first batch of BT-13As (41-1212 to 41-1710 contained on reel no. ACR-22) because some of the BFTS BT-13As came from this batch. Sadly they could find no mention of this accident in the records of this batch. It may be in reel (or CD) ACR-26 but this has not been viewed - I was hoping someone here had a copy of it and could see if any incident matches. It is not in Mireles' book Crash report http://5bfts.tweedies.biz/arcadia/pages/Crosskey%20accident/Crosskey%20accident%20report.aspx Thanks again Paul
