A pair of WWII TBF Avenger Torpedo Bombers got stuck in an Oregon marsh and the partially buried remains of one of them remain to this day.  The story behind how the wreck, known by the locals as “Betty the Bomber” got to where it is today involves naïve pilots and veteran cowboys. This story brings together all the available information about the aircraft wreck including, historical documents, official accident reports, and local tales to finally reveal the interesting story of “Betty the Bomber”.

My best story to date and one of the best wrecks!
Enjoy and I welcome your feedback

Another great story, Dave. Very interesting tale.
And one of the pilots a Yamato killer, wow.

Odd they went through the trouble of moving it so far.

Amazing you can still read "Betty", ha.

Excellent background and write-up.

Dave,

What a great tale.  As always, you're a master story teller.

Thanks for posting that.
