2017 International Wreckchasing Symposium, Pasco, Washington.

The 2017 Wreckchasing Symposium hosted by Dave McCurry is scheduled for late May of 2017 with no firm date set as of now. The venue will be held on the east side of the Pasco airport in a nice modern aviation ground training and conference room provided by Bergstrom Aircraft, Inc.

For those interested in flying in to the event; the Pasco Airport is currently served by Delta, United Express, Alaska/Horizon, and Allegiant Airlines.

There are five motels located nearby with Best Western offering attendees group rates for the event. The Best Western and Red Lion motels are located within one mile of the event, with three other motels located within three miles of the event. Driving from either of these locations is very simple and easy with very light traffic.

Prior to, and after the Wreckchasing Symposium, there will be wreck hunting trips available, air tours of the local area, a talk given on the local Pasco Naval Air Station history with a visit to the new museum, and a possible aviation archaeology dig. There is a buried dump site of Navy F4F Wildcat and F6F Hellcat fighter planes located on the former WWII Pasco NAS training base that we are currently trying to get dig approval on.

Inquiries regarding the 2017 Wreckchasing Symposium can be directed to Dave McCurry, dvmccurry@yahoo.com

Dave, I'm truly looking forward to the Pasco symposium in May.  At the 2016 symposium in Pueblo, Dave Mihalik spoke highly of the many crash sites around the Pasco area and your experience investigating them.  I and a some other AvAr team members are definitely planning to arrive a couple of days early in order to visit some of these sites.  Also, I'm personally interested in investigating the Pasco Airport from the early airmail airfield standpoint.

Please let me know at your earliest how to purchase admittance for the symposium.  Also, if you have any suggestions for decent lodging nearby I'd appreciate that as early as possible so that I can secure choice accommodations.

Finally, if you are still looking for speakers, I can provide a presentation if you'd like.  Please let me know soon.

2017 will be the first symposium we have done in the Northwest, and I'm really stoked to attend.

Brian,

Sorry I am late responding back to you, I have been completely overwhelmed with flight training lately. In regard to your interest in lodging, we at Bergstrom Aircraft have a group rate for the 2017 International Wreckchasing Symposium scheduled for May 20-21, 2017, at the Best Western Plus Pasco Inn and Suites. You can call the Best Western Plus at 509-543-7722 for more information.

Travel distance from the airline terminal to the Best Western Inn is .5 miles, and travel distance from the Best Western Inn to the Bergstrom Aircraft conference room where the symposium is being held is 1.5 miles. Rooms are very nice and they do have a free shuttle van to and from either of those locations. We very much look forward to a large number of speakers giving presentations on a variety of topics, so you are welcome to give one.

As we gather more information, we will be posting a lot more after the first of the year. Dave

Thanks to all who are organizing the 2017 Symposium.  All looks good so far!  I am planning to attend and am preparing a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation titled "Washington and Oregon's Early Airways."  This will concentrate on the artifacts I've found of the airway light beacons and four-course, low-frequency radio ranges in the two states.  Oregon is rich in surviving beacon towers and both states have unique surviving remnants of the radio ranges.  Looking forward to May in Pasco!

Thank you, Tom, for letting us know you'll be participating.  The research and cataloging of historic airways sites is an important feature of our historic work. Data-logging of these vanishing facilities is an integral part of what we're all about.

I'm planning to attend. Need anymore speakers? I'm presently putting together a PowerPoint presentation about the 1942 accident involving TWA Flight 3 near Las Vegas, NV for our FAA safety seminar.

Dave,

I am truly sorry that I had to cancel my appearance at the last minute.  Your understanding of my present family situation is most appreciated.  I am sure that the 8th International Wreckchasing Symposium will be a tremendous success, especially with all the wonderful local and international speakers attending.  I plan to join with you sometime in the not-to-distant future in order to sample some of your Northwest Mountain crash sites.
