I know the USAF Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, keeps official forms (cards) documenting every USAF airplane's assignment history and, later, disposition once it is stricken from operational status.  A few years ago I successfully requested a copy of a card documenting a particular B-58 Hustler, and that card contained a great deal of useful information.  Unfortunately, I no longer recall the numerical designation of the form/card or what it is called.  Can anyone help with the form's name/numerical designation?  Does anyone know how far back those records go, i.e. WWII, Korea, etc?  I'm trying to find data on a WWII-era Curtiss P-40K and was hoping I could request documentation from the HRA at Maxwell.

Fairlane - I think you may be describing the IARC (Individual Aircraft Record Card). You can request them from NASM as well.  I believe there are a number of cards missing from Maxwell due to fire. I could be wrong, though that sticks in my memory for some reason.

NASM reports there are gaps between 1943 and 1944 due to the change in record keeping practices.

Thanks, Matt.  I think you've nailed it.  I hope NASM has one for the P-40 I'm researching.
